Magnetic Sunglasses

Magnetic Sunglasses with MAG Lenses

The light you ride or run in rarely stays the same, and the right lens for bright sun isn't the one you want under cloud cover or at dusk. Smith magnetic sunglasses let you switch lenses in seconds. The MAG system holds each lens with magnets, so you release the toggles, lift the old lens out, and snap the new one in — no bending the frame, no thumbprints on the lens.

That quick swap means one pair of sunglasses covers a lot more ground. Run a ChromaPop™ lens to sharpen color and contrast on bright days, then switch to a photochromic lens that adjusts automatically as the light fades, or a clear lens for low light and early starts. Models like the Shift XL MAG and Shift Split MAG come with a bonus clear lens in the box, so you're set up for changing conditions from the first ride or run.

Built for cyclists and runners, MAG frames are light enough to forget you're wearing them and stay put when the pace picks up. Megol nose pads and temples grip a little harder as you sweat, and an adjustable nose piece dials in the fit so they stay put from the first mile to the last.

FAQs

What are magnetic sunglasses?

Magnetic sunglasses use magnets to hold the lens in the frame, so you can swap lenses without bending or prying. On Smith's MAG frames, you release the toggles on each temple, lift the lens out, and snap a new one in. It takes seconds, and you never have to push on the lens itself, so there are no thumbprints to wipe off after.

Are magnetic sunglasses worth it?

They're worth it if you ride or run in changing light, since one frame covers conditions that would otherwise take two or three pairs. Swap to a bright-light lens for midday sun, a photochromic lens that adjusts automatically as clouds roll in, or a clear lens for early starts. You can buy one pair and switch the lens as needed instead of carrying backups.

Do the magnets hold the lenses securely?

Yes—the MAG system locks each lens with magnetic toggles that hold through fast, rough riding. The magnets snap the lens into place, and the toggles on each temple keep it seated so it won't pop loose on a rough descent or a hard effort. You get the easy swap without the rattly feel some clip-on systems have.

How do I change the lenses?

Lens swaps take just a few seconds with no tools. Release the toggle on each temple, lift the lens out by the top edge, line up the replacement, and let the magnets pull it back into place. Because you handle the lens by the brow rather than the center, you're not leaving fingerprints on the part you look through.

What lenses do Smith magnetic sunglasses come with?

Most MAG models ship with more than one lens, so you're ready for different light from day one. Models like the Shift MAG and Shift Split MAG include a ChromaPop™ lens for color and contrast, plus a bonus clear lens for low light. You can add more tints, including photochromic and polarized options, to cover bright sun, overcast days, and low light.

Are Smith magnetic sunglasses good for cycling and running?

Yes—the MAG line is built specifically for cyclists and runners. The frames are lightweight, sit close to your face for wind and sun coverage, and use Megol nose pads and temples that grip harder as you sweat. The quick lens swap is built for exactly the kind of changing light you hit on a long ride or run.
