Polarized sunglasses work by placing a directional filter inside the lens, oriented vertically to block light that bounces off flat surfaces, such as water, snow, pavement, or metal. The polarized filter blocks that concentrated horizontal light while allowing vertical (ambient) light to pass through, dramatically reducing glare. The result is a clearer, sharper vision with less eye strain, especially in bright, reflective conditions.
